Leicester Predicted XI vs Sheffield Utd

Leicester City will be aiming to make it back-to-back Premier League victories on Sunday afternoon as they take on bottom club Sheffield United at the King Power Stadium.

Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes managed to edge past Brighton & Hove Albion last time out, with Daniel Amartey scoring a late winning goal at the Amex Stadium.

With a few key returnees, how many changes could the Northern Ireland native be tempted to make to his starting XI?

There should only be slight tweaks and alterations to the team, with predominantly the same side which beat the Seagulls selected again, although there could be a couple of changes.

Rodgers has appeared to have found his preference with three at the back, so Kasper Schmeichel will once again be shielded by a familiar backline.

Caglar Soyuncu will take his place alongside last weekend’s matchwinner Amartey. However, with Jonny Evans returning to fitness, he could replace £24.3m-rated Wesley Fofana after his somewhat uncomfortable display against the Seagulls.

Just slightly further forwards should be Wilfred Ndidi, Youri Tielemans, Ricardo Pereira and Timothy Castagne.

One alteration, however, could be the fit-again Dennis Praet coming into the midfield in place of youngster Sidnei Tavares. The Belgian has been missing since pulling up against Stoke City in early January.

Meanwhile, the attack should stay the same with Jamie Vardy supported by Kelechi Iheanacho. The Nigerian is gunning to score in three consecutive Premier League matches for the first time in his career after strikes against Burnley and Brighton and Hove Albion.

WBA fans love Chris Brunt return

West Bromwich Albion fans are delighted after the club announced Chris Brunt will be returning to the club to work with the club’s academy.

Brunt spent 13 years with the Baggies between 2007 and 2020. During that time, he made 421 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring 49 goals and providing 89 assists in all competitions (Transfermarkt). He is a club legend, of that there is no doubt.

Now, he will be returning to the Midlands after a short spell at Sheffield Wednesday. Not in a playing role, though – he will now be a coach in the outfit’s academy. The club shared the news on their official Twitter account, and it attracted plenty of attention from the supporters.

They were absolutely delighted with the news, and they took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Gers fans react to Gerrard speculation

Glasgow Rangers fans have been reacting to reports that Liverpool are lining up Steven Gerrard to replace Jurgen Klopp as manager.

Gerrard has led the Gers to a fantastic campaign so far. As it stands, the Ibrox outfit are 18 points clear at the top of the Premiership with eight matches left to play (BBC), meaning they are on the verge of winning their first title in 10 years. Also, they are in the Europa League round of 16, where they will face Slavia Prague.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are struggling after winning the league title for the first time in 30 years. They are currently sixth in the Premier League table and have a fight on their hands just to make the Champions League.

As such, The Mirror has suggested Gerrard could be brought in to replace Klopp, who may be interested in taking over from Joachim Low as Germany boss. This has attracted plenty of attention from the Gers supporters, with many branding the speculation as nonsense.

They took to social media platform Twitter to share their thoughts.

Let’s see what the fans had to say about the Gerrard claim below

“There’s no danger Liverpool are sacking Klopp. Last 2 years he’s won C.L. & P.L. Injuries have been a huge factor in their performances this season. Also , they’ve waited decades on a manager that could deliver the title. And anyway ,Gerrard’s OURS”

Liverpool fans rule out Ox turnaround

In response to a tweet from Liverpool FC fan feed @AnfieldWatch, a number of Reds fans have suggested Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s time at the club is up.

Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Liverpool for £35 million (BBC) in 2017 but injuries have stalled his Anfield career.

Remarkably, he hasn’t completed 90 Premier League minutes since April 2018, towards the end of that debut season (via @CaoimheSport).

He has started two Premier League games this term – the defeats against Southampton and Burnley in January – but was substituted before the hour mark on both occasions.

In fairness, the Englishman was unavailable until December, but since his return to fitness he has only clocked 221 minutes (via Transfermarkt).

Curtis Jones’ impressive form looks to have nudged Oxlade-Chamberlain further down the pecking order. Liverpool’s depth in midfield is now strong even despite their injury issues, particularly after Naby Keita returned to the fold on Sunday.

Liverpool fans think Oxlade-Chamberlain’s prospects are bleak

“He was running around when he came on last time like a headless chicken. More focus required from him.”

“No way, he needs to be sold! He’ll end up at Southampton.”

“Even when fit he blows hot and cold. Time to cash in whilst there still resale value. We’d be dumb to keep two injury midfielders especially after this season and Keita gets my vote to stay. “

“He’s gone in the summer. Love the lad but his time is up. 20 year old Curtis and 35 year old Milner are ahead of him.”

Sunderland: Fans delighted by Chris Waters news

Sunderland fans have been reacting to the news that Chris Waters of the Supporter Engagement Department will be returning to work imminently.

Over the past few years, things have not gone well for Sunderland. They have dropped down to League One from the Premier League, and have had to put up with some frustrating owners. The current man in charge is Stewart Donald, one of the stars of the second series of the Sunderland Til I Die Netflix documentary, which followed the club during the 2018-19 campaign, although he is in the process of selling the club.

Sunderland have appeared to be out of touch with the supporters at time. Now, though, it seems that the importance of the fans has been recognised by the return of Waters to his job, on a part-time basis, after being on furlough.

The Sunderland fans were delighted with this news, which was relayed by Waters himself on Twitter, and they took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Let’s see what the fans had to say about the Waters news below

Predicted Newcastle line-up vs Fulham: Longstaff axed, Almiron & Shelvey return

Newcastle United welcome Fulham to St. James’ Park on Saturday night looking to bounce back from their 5-2 humbling at Leeds.

The Magpies had begun to build a run of form with wins over Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion before visiting Elland Road, where Steve Bruce’s side were outpassed, outthought and outworked from the first kick of the game to the last.

Bruce will be looking for a response from his players when the Cottagers descend on Tyneside, but will have to consider changes to his starting line-up with a three-day turnaround and a vital Carabao Cup quarter-final looming.

So, with changes almost certain to avoid further physical damage on a squad still recovering from coronavirus, here’s a predicted XI Bruce could name against Scott Parker’s Fulham…

Bruce has confirmed he has no new injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s encounter with Parker’s relegation-threatened side, but conceded that he fears fatigue and illness will see a few miss the next couple of weeks.

Karl Darlow should expect to start in goal with Martin Dubravka still sidelined through injury alongside Allan Saint-Maximin, while Paul Dummett’s absence should see Jamal Lewis retain his spot at left-back despite leaving fans irate with a horror show performance at Leeds.

Jacob Murphy will likely not be as fortunate at right-back, despite offering Bruce some positives at Elland Road going forward, as he was unable to bring the defensive support needed that DeAndre Yedlin would supply should he earn his first Premier League start of the season.

Sean Longstaff, who Rafa Benitez once praised as being “very humble” and hardworking, totally crumbled in West Yorkshire after his mistake gifted Leeds the chance to break for their third goal of the game and must be replaced against Fulham.

Jonjo Shelvey is the most likely name to feature alongside Isaac Hayden after sitting out the Elland Road affair given the quick turnaround between fixtures.

Miguel Almiron also only made the bench against Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites and will expect to be recalled to face the Cottagers, joining Ryan Fraser in the starting line-up after the former AFC Bournemouth winger registered a joint-team high three key balls against Leeds.

Dwight Gayle was unable to deliver the same impact from the bench at Elland Road that he brought against West Brom, leaving Bruce with no choice but to retain faith in Joelinton partnering top-scorer Callum Wilson despite the Brazilian only scoring once in 11 league games.

AND in other news, Mike Ashley must block Steve Bruce from making a knee-jerk decision on an “instrumental” Newcastle gem.

Tottenham: Everton eye move for Alli %%page%% %%sep%% %%sitename%%

According to a report from Football Insider, Spurs outcast Dele Alli is now attracting the interest of Everton after manager Jose Mourinho froze him out the squad – with the Lilywhites potentially a step closer to losing the 6 ft 2 ace in January after this update.

Alli, who has only played 67 minutes of Premier League action this campaign, last appearing for Spurs during their 1-0 defeat to Royal Antwerp in the Europa League, could be closer to a January exit as Everton register their intent.

Toffees eyeing Alli move

The Englishman, alongside the likes of Paulo Gazzaniga and Harry Winks, is now being closely watched by the Toffees as they plan to take advantage of their squad situation and offer them a way out.

Alli in particular, especially with the postponed Euro 2020 Championship around the corner, could, in fact, wish to take this opportunity should Carlo Ancelotti’s side come in with a January bid.

As per Football Insider, both Alli and Winks could fall into the loan move away category with Everton reportedly interested in those types of deals along with any other money-saving alternatives.

Transfer Tavern take

Described as a ‘monster’, manager Mourinho, while currently refusing to play him, could be closer to losing a potentially fruitful attacking option after this big update.

Former Tottenham boss and fan favourite Mauricio Pochettino described him as ‘special’, and the Lilywhites could still find a use for him despite the emergence of Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso as attacking midfielders.

As Premier League clubs register their interest, Mourinho has a decision to make in regards to Alli – whether to stick or twist as January looms.

Forget Adams: Kyle Walker-Peters stole the show for Southampton

Southampton rose into the Premier League’s top four by whitewashing rock bottom Sheffield United at St Mary’s Stadium this lunchtime.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men were convincing in victory, starting with Che Adams’ opener just after the half-hour mark. He pounced inside the six-yard box to produce a proper poacher’s finish before Stuart Armstrong bagged a second and Nathan Redmond came off the bench to add a third.

For now, Saints are sat in third place depending on this evening’s result at Leicester City – a defeat there and the south-coasters could only be behind Spurs and Liverpool.

Adams took many of the plaudits, rating out as the home side’s best player at 8.0 on SofaScore but another one of Hasenhuttl’s stars stood out in what will undoubtedly be an underrated display.

After all, they did keep a clean sheet, so the defence deserves plenty of credit too. None more so than the right-back.

Kyle Walker-Peters was heavily involved for the Saints, recording 82 touches throughout the 90 minutes he was on the pitch, only one other midfielder or attacking player managed more, also via SofaScore.

The £13.5m-rated dynamo won seven of ten duels, made 100% of his two dribbles, put in two tackles and even enjoyed a shot at goal.

He was also particularly accurate in his passing, making 87% of 60 attempts, which was even better than attacking playmaker Armstrong.

HampshireLive summed up his performance well, giving him an 8/10.

They said:

“Energetic from the get-go at St. Mary’s and a player who looks as if he will only get better and better with fans present. He was trusting in his teammates and crucial to a fine first-half performance.”

Walker-Peters is looking more and more like a fine piece of business by the Saints as he continues to star at right-back.

Industrious as ever, the 23-year-old has now started and played the full 90 in all 12 of their top-flight outings this term, and with continued showings like that, he’ll be a hard man for Hasenhuttl to withdraw in the future.
