Liverpool fans drool over Kai Havertz’s goal-scoring display

One of the hottest talents in German football, Kai Havertz marked Bayer Leverkusen’s return to Bundesliga action with an inspired display on Monday night. And Liverpool fans at home were left very impressed.

The 20-year-old has been in impressive form for his club side this season, finding the back of the net ten times in 34 games across all competitions.

Away from home against Werder Bremen, Havertz took centre stage, scoring twice and earning 8.4 match rating from Sofascore – only teammate Kerem Demirbay fared better.

The attacking midfielder has been previously linked with a high-profile move to Liverpool, and after seeing his performance, fans of the Merseyside club flooded to Twitter to share their thoughts on their former transfer target.

One Liverpool fan even suggested that he “could easily see him replacing Firmino”.

If Havertz continues to put in the kind of performance that he put on Monday night, then it seems inevitable that he will eventually leave Leverkusen for pastures new.

And with his fellow German, Jurgen Klopp, in charge at Anfield, Liverpool would surely be a very attractive proposition for him, and one that would be difficult to turn down.

One thing that is for certain is that Havertz looks destined for the top.

Rangers tipped to make move for Leeds ace Barry Douglas

Speaking to Football Insider, former Rangers defender Alan Hutton has suggested Leeds ace Barry Douglas could join the club this summer after his recent comments.

What did he say?

Reports in recent weeks have claimed that Marcelo Bielsa’s side are open to selling Douglas regardless of whether they earn promotion or not, and in a Q&A with Leeds’ official Twitter account, the defender admitted to supporting Rangers as a child after being born in Glasgow.

And now, Hutton has tipped Douglas to make the move up north, and insisted that his style of play could fit in perfectly with Steven Gerrard’s style of play.

He said: “Yeah, possibly. I think you have to look at the Barisic situation. I think that would be a key factor if he was to stay or leave but look, I think Barry Douglas is an excellent player. He went abroad, did really well, came back to Wolves and I thought he was arguably their best player.

“A move to Rangers, with him saying he supports them, could be a good opportunity for him to get back on track, back playing. He’s a wonderful crosser of the ball so it’s something Rangers look for in a player so I think he could fit in but a lot would hinge on the Barisic thing. I wouldn’t imagine he wouldn’t want to come up north to be sitting on the bench.”

Coming home

As Hutton points out, Rangers already have an established and quality first-team left-back in Borna Barisic, who has enjoyed a storming season at Ibrox this year.

The Croatian has managed an incredible 14 assists in 39 games this season for the Gers, and so it’s difficult to see how Douglas could displace the 27-year-old if he did end up staying this summer.

But if he does move on, then bringing Douglas back home to his boyhood club in Rangers could be the kind of shrewd addition that would offset any pain of losing Barisic.

Sunderland: Antoine Semenyo says goodbye to the club

It remains to be seen where the youngster’s future now lies, having had loan spells with Bath City and Newport County over the last few seasons. A Bristol City academy graduate, Semenyo has played 16 times so far for their first team.

Semenyo’s exit could be the first of many from Sunderland this summer, with the club now headed for another season in League One.

He impressed plenty of the club’s fans during his stay at the club, although his lack of goals and assists leaves question marks on whether or not his signing was worthwhile. That being said, a potential cut-price move would be hard to reject for Sunderland if they decide to back in for him, as they will likely need to do things on the cheap this summer.

Glasgow Rangers: Ryan Kent can get better, says his former manager Lee Johnson

Former Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has said that Ryan Kent must take his game to the next level for Glasgow Rangers during the 2020/21 campaign.

Johnson was Kent’s boss during his time at the Robins on loan from Liverpool in 2018, with him creating two goals in 11 matches for the Championship outfit. Since then, Kent has signed for the ‘Gers for a fee of £7m, but he is yet to set Ibrox alight with his displays, instead coming in for criticism at times.

Talking to the Daily Record, Johnson said:

“I’m certain that Ryan can get better and have a big season for Rangers this year. He’s still a young player, you have to remember that.

“Rangers are an unbelievable club, who are trying to close that gap on Celtic.

“And you can see signs of it at various different times. Ryan now has to take his game to the next level.

“He’s got a very good manager in Steven and one that really believes in him, which is important. Ryan will feel that belief.

“And I think it’ll be an interesting season up there.”

The Light Blues’ outlay on Kent was significant and, whilst he hasn’t been a flop, Steven Gerrard will have hoped for a better return than the eight goals and four assists the £3.15m-valued Liverpudlian managed in 32 matches last season.

This upcoming campaign is one of the utmost importance for Gerrard after two years without a trophy – the former Liverpool captain can surely not afford to go a third without silverware. As the ‘Gers look to close a 13-point gap to Celtic at the top of the Premiership table, a strong season from Kent would give them a huge boost and a stronger chance of doing so.

Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs eyeing summer transfer for Lucas Vazquez

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez, who has fallen out of favour with Zinedine Zidane this season.

Vazquez has been touted to make a move to Tottenham this summer and Jose Mourinho is ready to raid his old club Real Madrid to add to his wide options ahead of next season.

According to The Sun, as relayed by Ricky Sacks, Spurs are eyeing a transfer for the Spaniard in the summer.

Vazquez has struggled for consistent minutes under Zindane so far, as the emergence of Vinicius Junior and injury problems have scuppered his playing time. The 28-year-old, who moved to Real Madrid from Espanyol, has slipped below the likes of Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale and Isco in the Bernabeu pecking order.

Mourinho is considering a move for Vazquez, as the duo worked together while he was a reserve player during the Portuguese’s time at Madrid.

Although the Spaniard has suffered from an injury-ravaged season, it is worth remembering he has still won the Champions League three times and lifted the La Liga trophy twice. Real were crowned Spanish champions as Zidane’s side won their first La Liga title in three years by beating Villarreal 2-1 last week, with Karim Benzema scoring twice.

Mourinho wanted Vazquez while he was in charge of Manchester United and it seems like he will get another chance to sign the winger in the summer.

The Lilywhites are lacking quality in the attacking areas, as Mourinho has moaned about the lack of creativity in the midfield, and Vazquez could provide some depth and cover for the wide men.

However, both clubs are refusing to meet in the middle, as his valuation has become a stumbling block. Spurs are prepared to spend £15m on the right winger, while Los Blancos are demanding £23m. Whether or not Daniel Levy will be able to get a deal done remains to be seen.

Gregg Evans provides update on Jack Grealish’s future

Aston Villa’s summer may look very different dependant on what happens on the final day, but one thing that certain journalists think is inevitable is the departure of Jack Grealish.

Gregg Evans stated in his Q&A that the midfielder will go this summer and that he wants to win trophies, but later in that same session, he gave a further update on the midfielder’s future.

What’s been said then?

Ahead of Villa’s crucial game against West Ham, fans were able to put their questions to the journalist, and one recurring question that kept cropping up was about Grealish’s future.

Watch Aston Villa Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below</

Unfortunately, it seems as though he’s going to leave, but there is some good news to take out of this as Evans has said that the owners will hold firm on the fee if they’re still a Premier League side.

“There are a lot of clubs interested: Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Newcastle, clubs abroad.

It’s just which club decides to firm up their interest with a formal bid and, crucially, the right money for Villa to sell. The owners will hold firm for a very big fee if Villa survive.” Evans wrote.

Have to stay up

Grealish looks likely to go no matter what, but Villa are in a much stronger position to ask for a big fee if they’re a Premier League outfit.

This will likely end up being one of the biggest sales in the club’s history, but if they are forced to sell because of relegation rather than being in a position of power, this could end up being one of the biggest missed opportunities Villa Park has ever seen.

Selling the midfielder for big money could provide the club with the cash injection needed to catapult themselves to the next level, but if they go down and receive a substantially lower fee for him, it’ll be impossible to not look back on it with huge regret.

Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs offered chance to sign Watford striker Troy Deeney as cover for Harry Kane

Tottenham Hotspur could make a surprise move for Watford striker Troy Deeney after the Hornets were relegated from the Premier League on the final day of the season.

It’s no secret that Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho wants to find a backup for Harry Kane this summer as Spurs struggled to score during his long absence due to injury.

According to The Daily Mail, as relayed by Ricky Sacks, Watford want to offload Deeney and other big earners to reduce their wage bill before they drop to the Championship and Mourinho is interested in the club captain, who has been at Vicarage Road since 2010, racking up nearly 400 appearances for the Hornets so far.

The Lilywhites have allowed Troy Parrott to leave for Millwall on loan, leaving the England international as the only recognised striker at the club.

Spurs are interested in signing Deeney on a season-long loan although this could be a problem as he only has a year left to run on his current contract.

Deeney, 32, scored 10 goals in 27 games in the Premier League this season, having bagged 133 goals in 398 games for the Hornets in all competitions.

Despite his best efforts, he couldn’t stop Watford from dropping down to the Championship, but could be a valuable asset on the bench.

Mourinho has a history of deploying powerful forwards to dominate defences, as he famously used Didier Drogba and Diego Costa to great effect during his two spells in charge of Chelsea, and Deeney is cut from a similar cloth.

He is strong in the air and has shown no signs of shying away from a tackle (or two), and would add another attacking element to a Spurs side that have often been accused of being too one-directional in the past.

It is highly unlikely Daniel Levy will have to splash the cash to sign Deeney in the summer, who is currently valued at £5.85m via Transfermarkt, and he may be a shrewd signing to make as he surely can’t be any worse than the likes of Roberto Soldado and Vincent Janssen in north London.

Liverpool: Fans praise Kevin De Bruyne after Man City midfielder named Premier League Player of the Season

A number of Liverpool fans have hailed Kevin De Bruyne as a deserving winner of the Premier League Player of the Season.

Sky Sports reported that the 29-year-old Manchester City midfielder had scooped the prize ahead of Reds trio Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who had also been shortlisted, despite Pep Guardiola’s side finishing 18 points adrift of the champions in 2019/20.

De Bruyne registered a mammoth 20 assists in the league last season, seven more than the next highest player on the list (Alexander-Arnold, as per premierleague.com), as well as netting 13 goals in the division, including one against Liverpool in Man City’s 4-0 win at the start of July.

In 2017/18, when the Etihad Stadium outfit romped to the Premier League title with a 100-point haul, Reds winger Mohamed Salah was named Player of the Season after a 44-goal campaign which included 32 in the English top flight.

These Liverpool fans on Twitter felt that the “outstanding” De Bruyne “has been immense” for City and was a worthy winner of the individual accolade, with some Reds critical of a report in Manchester Evening News which claimed that Kopites were fuming over the Belgian’s recognition:

Watkins, Rashica & Grealish: How Aston Villa’s XI may look after summer transfers

Aston Villa enjoyed a flurry of signings last summer as they made their long-awaited return to the Premier League, but will this year be any different?

Dean Smith’s side were still embroiled in a gruelling relegation battle which only saw them survive on the final day of the season and that was despite no fewer than ten new additions across the board.

The Midlands outfit have been linked to many names over the past few months, so here’s what the XI could look like come the end of the transfer window…

There could be as many as three new signings by the time the window closes in early October.

With Pepe Reina departed, Tom Heaton should be back between the sticks following injury, but he’ll come back to a different back four than he’s used to.

It could be Ezri Konsa next to Tyrone Mings instead of Bjorn Engels whilst new signing Matty Cash takes up the reigns at right-back. He’s able to leave Nottingham Forest if a team matches their £15m valuation.

In a slight tweak to the formation, Smith’s new three-man midfield is full of players who are already at the club, including skipper Jack Grealish, which may come as a surprise. Behind him is likely to be John McGinn and Douglas Luiz.

Meanwhile, upfront, the Villa boss finally gets his man with the club opting to splash £25m on Brentford talisman Ollie Watkins.

Trezeguet keeps his place at right-wing over Anwar El Ghazi and Jota whilst on the other flank is another fresh addition in the form of Bremen star Milot Raschica.

It’s expected that he departs the Bundesliga club this summer with Villa leading the charge. He too is going to cost around €25m (£22.5m).

Therefore, there’s no place for the likes of Wesley, Frederic Guilbert or Engels.

Spurs could find Mourinho’s next Ibra in Wout Weghorst

Tottenham Hotspur appear to be closing in on the signing of a new striker this week as fresh reports have emerged…

What’s the word?

According to De Telegraaf, Wolfsburg colossus Wout Weghorst may have played his final game for the club amid serious interest from the north Londoners.

They claim that Jose Mourinho wants a target man to play second fiddle to Harry Kane during a very congested season – one that sees Spurs play Sunday-Tuesday-Thursday this week.

Although he won’t come cheap. It’s thought that the Bundesliga outfit value their forward at £27m, though would be willing to receive the money in staggered instalments. CIES value him as high as €40m (£36.5m).

Ibrahimovic-like colossus

The 28-year-old played 41 times for Wolfsburg last season where he provided 18 goals and five assists, averaging 2.7 shots per game, via WhoScored.

He also won an average of 3.3 aerial duels per match too and this is no surprise considering he stands at a gigantic 6 foot 6 inches in height. His imposing stature has drawn comparisons to former Premier League striker Edin Dzeko.

Bundesliga.com claim “Weghorst is happy to get stuck into challenges, hold up play and – when necessary – pass to teammates in better scoring positions. The hulking striker has won over half of his challenges this season, while he has an incredible work rate.”

Mourinho has pretty much had this sort of player wherever he’s been, most notably the likes of Diego Costa at Chelsea and Karim Benzema at Real Madrid but perhaps, Weghorst is more Zlatan Ibrahimovic, than Dzeko.

Fellow Wolves striker Admir Mehmedi dubbed his teammate “so crazy” – but in a good way – claiming: “He runs a lot for the team and has a really strong mentality.”

Whilst former head coach Bruno Labbadia’s comments emphasise his impressive work rate, he added: “He runs a lot, he’s tireless.”

Mourinho had Ibra at both Inter Milan and Manchester United and whilst the pair have always had a strong relationship, it’s something the ‘Special One’ is lacking in north London.

Daniel Levy should look to complete this move, especially as Wolfsburg are fine with that £27m not being all upfront.
