Devastating Dickson powers Somerset to Finals Day

Hosts turn the tables in thrilling late burst as Birmingham are left stunned at Taunton

Sean Dickson hammered a magnificent 71 off 26 balls to see Somerset through to Vitality Blast Finals Day with a nerve-tingling four-wicket victory over Birmingham Bears at the Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton. The visitors posted 190 for six after winning the toss, Alex Davies top-scoring with 71 off just 39 balls, with 13 fours. Rob Yates provided a lightning start with 25 off ten deliveries, but Ben Green’s two for 30 enabled Somerset to peg their opponents back.Even so, it took a stupendous knock from Dickson, who blasted 5 fours and 6 sixes, to see the home side to victory with just one ball to spare. Tom Abell made 51, while Oliver Hannon-Dalby claimed three for 24.Bears looked set for a mammoth total when scoring 82 off the six-over power play. Yates hit every ball of Riley Meredith’s first over, the second of the match, for four, while Davies took five boundaries off the fifth over, sent down by Craig Overton.Overton had broken the partnership with the score on 39, having Yates caught at fine leg. Davies then dominated a half-century stand with Dan Mousley, who fell for 12, bowled by Somerset captain Lewis Gregory. At the halfway stage of their innings, Bears had 119 on the board, Davies having reached a 24-ball half-century after being dropped in the deep on 44 by Will Smeed off Jake Ball. But when he fell in the 12th over, bowled by Green attempting a ramp shot, which had served him well, it signalled a turning point.Alex Davies attempts a ramp during his 71 from 39 balls•Getty Images

Green and Gregory bowled economically, along with left-arm spinner Lewis Goldsworthy, as three more wickets fell and the innings ended without a single six having been hit. Kai Smith finished unbeaten on 28, but after the blistering start the Bears final total looked no more than par on a typically bat-friendly Taunton pitch. The first maximum of the game was struck by Tom Kohler-Cadmore off George Garton over mid-wicket in the third over of Somerset’s reply. The next over, bowled by Richard Gleeson, saw the dangerous Will Smeed caught off a top-edged pull with the score on 28.The power play ended with Somerset 49 for one. That became 64 for two when Kohler-Cadmore, on 32, drove a straightforward catch to long-on off Oliver Hannon-Dalby and at the halfway stage of their innings the hosts were 73 for two, needing more than 11 an over.James Rew was dropped at short fine leg off Garton, but departed for 11, caught off the very next ball, before Abell brought the hundred up in the 13th over with a six over mid-wicket off Ed Barnard. Dickson followed up by clearing the ropes off Briggs and Garton to raise Somerset hopes.Abell went to fifty off 39 balls, with 5 fours and six, but perished soon afterwards, caught at long-off skying a ball from Briggs. Dickson replied with a six in the same over before another skyer accounted for Gregory off Hannon-Dalby, who then sent back Green in what seemed a decisive 18th over.Despite Dickson’s 19-ball fifty, Somerset required 19 off the final over, bowled by Barnard. But he was far from finished, clearing the ropes twice and smashing a straight four to cap a memorable innings and win the game for his side.

Man City now willing to make shock Rodri decision as part of £100m+ Bellingham move

Manchester City are now willing to make an unexpected decision about Rodri’s future at the club in an attempt to sign Jude Bellingham from Real Madrid in 2026.

The Citizens were in a ruthless mood against Liverpool before the international break, with Pep Guardiola overseeing his 1000th game as a manager in classic, dominant style.

Injured £150k-a-week Man City star in protective boot, will miss 20+ games

He’s had more surgery.

ByCharlie Smith Nov 14, 2025

It was the first time that the Citizens have sent a damning statement to the rest of the Premier League about their title credentials this season and former player Micah Richards believes that they could yet beat Arsenal to the crown once again.

What has made City’s quietly impressive form even better is the fact that they’ve coped without Rodri. In the Spaniard’s absence last season, they looked a shadow of their controlled best. This time around, as Rodri continues a stuttered recovery from an ACL injury, Nico Gonzalez has provided Guardiola with the perfect replacement.

It’s allowed City’s Ballon d’Or winner to slowly work his way back to his best, but has also welcomed some interesting reports about his long-term future at the Etihad. Some in Spain have even gone as far as to suggest that Rodri could yet be sacrificed as part of another £100m+ deal.

Man City willing to spend £100m+ to sign Bellingham

According to those reports in the Spanish media, Man City are now willing to spend €150m (£133m) to sign Bellingham in 2026 and could be prepared to use Rodri as a makeweight in any potential deal with Real Madrid.

There’s been more unrest at the Bernabeu since the arrival of Xabi Alonso, with Vinícius Jr particularly struggling with the Spaniard’s call for discipline, and that has opened the door for a number of potential exits.

Whether Bellingham is among those is the question that many will be asking. There’s no doubt that he — as one of the best midfielders in the world — would take City back to the level that resulted in Premier League dominance not so long ago.

Former Real boss Carlo Ancelotti has been one of many iconic names to hand Bellingham plenty of praise in recent years, having told Gary Lineker on the Rest is Football podcast earlier this week: “I think Jude is a fantastic player.

“If I have to compare, we were talking about Kaka. He is this kind of player, a really intelligent player, who is physically really strong, fantastic to arrive in the box at the right time.”

Man Utd eye move for £80m star who Man City would "love" to buy in January

Manchester United are fighting to bring a talented Premier League star to Old Trafford and may face a straight shootout with Manchester City and Arsenal for his services.

Ruben Amorim looks ahead to Crystal Palace vs Man Utd

There has been plenty of noise at Old Trafford following Manchester United’s bitter defeat to Everton on Monday night, something supporters will hope can be rectified when their side take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park this Sunday.

More than anything, a lack of penetration going forward led to a subdued atmosphere as proceedings rolled on, albeit Ruben Amorim has now urged his side to improve as they look to get back to winning ways against the Eagles.

He said in his pre-match press conference: “They are a different club (Crystal Palace) and they are doing things better than us so that is quite simple.

“We play in a different way and they are just doing things better than us. They are doing things really well and they play more in transition than us. We have to look at all of these things when we compare our teams but of course, in every position, we can do so much better.”

Shades of McTominay: Man Utd star is now their "most underrated player"

Manchester United now have a player who has certainly gone under the radar over the last couple of months.

ByEthan Lamb Nov 28, 2025

Looking ahead to January, Wolverhampton Wanderers star Andre could answer the Manchester United call for a midfielder, though it would be naive to think that is the only area of the field Amorim wants to bolster ahead of the run-in.

With that in mind, the Red Devils and INEOS have put themselves in a direct fight with the elite to sign an England international who is becoming an interesting commodity in the Premier League.

Man Utd eyeing move for Newcastle's Tino Livramento

According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United are keen on Newcastle United star Tino Livramento, and they could rival both Arsenal and Manchester City to land the England right-back.

The outlet shed some light on the situation, which read: “City would love to sign Livramento in January. That currently looks unlikely, but it could be a major saga next summer, when we can also expect United and Arsenal to come into the conversation.”

Capable of playing in either full-back position, Livramento has made 90 appearances for Newcastle, scoring once and registering three assists in total.

Fresh back from his latest injury setback, he is valued at around the £80 million mark by the Magpies and could be tempted by the possibility of switching clubs, even if he isn’t exactly agitating for a move elsewhere.

Manchester United have begun to improve under Amorim and will hope they stand a fighting chance of completing a deal. Nevertheless, they may need to fend off some stiff competition to land their man, who is coincidentally six matches unbeaten against the Red Devils.

Luciano pegou rapidamente outra bola e cobrou o lateral, enquanto o defensor adversário permaneceu caído.

Rishad's six-for wrecks WI as Bangladesh take 1-0 lead

Chasing 208, WI folded for 133 in 39 overs on an unusually dark pitch in Dhaka

Rishad Hossain’s 6 for 35, which included the first five West Indies wickets in a chase of 208, paved the way for a Bangladesh win in the series opener in Dhaka. After being on 51 for 0, West Indies were dismissed for 133 in 39 overs. The visitors’ chief tormentor on an unusually dark Dhaka pitch was Rishad, who became only the second legspinner to take the first five wickets in an ODI innings. Sri Lanka’s Jeffrey Vandersay is the only other legspinner to this feat, when he took the first six wickets against India last year in Colombo.Brandon King and Alick Athanaze had started well for West Indies, putting on a half-century opening stand. King struck Taskin Ahmed for a flicked six in the third over before Athanaze slammed Tanvir Islam for three fours and a six in the fourth over, which cost Bangladesh 18 runs.Bangladesh the dried up the boundaries from the fifth over. Rishad struck in his very first over, the 12th over of the chase, when he trapped Athanaze lbw for 27 off 36 balls. Then, in his fifth over, Rishad had No.3 Keacy Carty caught at slip for nine off 30 balls. Saif Hassan took a straightforward catch at slip after dropping Carty on 3 off Islam.Rishad struck the big blow when he had King caught behind for 44 off 60 balls with a fizzing legbreak in the 22nd over. Wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan took the catch on the second attempt. Sherfane Rutherford fell for a duck in the same over, also caught behind off a beautiful legbreak.Rishad completed his five-for in the 24th over when he had Roston Chase caught behind for six. He became the first legspinner from Bangladesh to take a five-wicket haul in ODIs.Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Islam then got into the act, removing Gudakesh Motie and Shai Hope. Motie was lbw to Mehidy for three, before the West Indies captain, Hope, gave Nurul his fourth catch of the innings. Romario Shepherd fell trying to force the pace against Mustafizur Rahman in the 35th over. Mustafizur proceeded to dismiss allrounder Justin Greaves for 12 off 23 balls. Rishad wrapped up the game with Jayden Seales’ wicket, with Mehidy taking the catch at slip. It was just reward for Mehidy who tasted victory for only the second time in 11 ODIs as captain.West Indies had earlier controlled Bangladesh’s run-rate for most of the first innings. The home side lost their openers Saif and Soumya Sarkar within the first three overs, before Towhid Hridoy and Najmul Hossain Shanto added 71 runs for the third wicket. Both batters, however, remained mostly circumspect hitting three boundaries each. Shanto made 32 off 63 balls before Hridoy reached his fifty off 87 balls. Bangladesh struck just three boundaries from the 11th to the 36th over. Mehidy and Mahidul Islam also batted slowly, with the latter, making his ODI debut, finishing with 46 off 76 balls. He struck three fours before Chase bowled him in the 46th over.Rishad also contributed with the bat, his 26 off 16 balls, including two sixes and a four, helping Bangladesh pass 200. His cameo ended when Seales yorked him in the 49th over. His job wasn’t done yet. He played an even bigger role with the ball to carry Bangladesh to victory.

European club reach "verbal agreement" to sign "excellent" Newcastle attacker in 2026

A European club has now reached a “verbal agreement” to sign a Newcastle United attacker in the January transfer window.

Newcastle receive major Yoane Wissa boost

Things are starting to look up for Newcastle. On the pitch, they eased past Everton in the Premier League to make it back-to-back domestic wins and finally pick up a victory on the road.

Meanwhile, away from the action, Yoane Wissa has decided against taking part in the African Cup of Nations with Dr Congo, with his full focus on making his long-awaited debut for the Magpies.

Providing an update on the striker’s fitness in his latest press conference, Eddie Howe told reporters: “He participated in an 11v11 training game while we were at Everton. He will have another one this week and we will see how he is.”

The Newcastle boss also previewed his side’s forthcoming clash against Tottenham Hotspur in search of a third-straight Premier League win, saying: “It’s vitally important we find the consistency we’re searching for.

“It seems like we’re going between Champions League and Premier League and not quite finding that sweet spot we’ve been searching for all season. Hopefully this is the turning point for us.”

Three points could take those in Tyneside up to seventh in the Premier League and one place behind Sunderland if other results go their way. But that improvement may not be enough to keep hold of William Osula, who could reportedly be on his way out of Newcastle when the January transfer window arrives.

Osula reaches "verbal agreement" with Frankfurt

According to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, Eintracht Frankfurt have now reached a “verbal agreement” with Osula ahead of January. The young striker is reportedly keen to join the Bundesliga club, but they are yet to reach an agreement with Newcastle despite ongoing contact.

With record signing Nick Woltemade thriving and Wissa finally on his way back from injury, a winter move would make perfect sense for Osula. Whether Newcastle are keen to let him leave for around €20m (£18m) at the end of the season is another question, however.

At 22 years old, the forward still has plenty of potential and received praise from Howe back in April when the manager dubbed his young star “excellent”. Whilst the loan move would do him good, Osula’s long-term future could still lie at St James’ Park.

Rain allows only 13 balls; Australia retain Chappell-Hadlee Trophy

Australia were 16 for 1 off 2.1 overs before rain ended the game after rain earlier in the day had delayed the start

Michael Bracewell sent Australia in as New Zealand made three changes with Ben Sears returning from injury, Ish Sodhi becoming New Zealand’s most-capped men’s T20I player, and Jimmy Neesham called in to replace Kyle Jamieson, Zak Foulkes and Bevon Jacobs.Related

Travis Head was the only wicket to fall, slicing Duffy to Devon Conway at backward point. The rain returned and never stopped.
