The BCCI has announced a cash reward of INR 58 crore for the Champions Trophy-winning India squad. India beat New Zealand by four wickets in the title clash in Dubai on March 9.”Winning back-to-back ICC titles is special and this reward recognizes Team India’s dedication and excellence on the global stage,” BCCI president Roger Binny said. “The cash award is a recognition of the hard work that everyone puts in behind the scenes. The ICC had already announced a cash prize of USD 2.24 million for the winners of this Champions Trophy and an additional $34,000 for each match won (for every team), excluding the semi-finals and finals. The total prize pot of $6.9 million is a 53% increase from the 2017 edition. The runners-up New Zealand won $1.12 million, while the losing semi-finalists South Africa and Australia walked away with $560,000 each. In addition, all eight teams were assured of $125,000 each for competing in this Champions Trophy.India have enjoyed one of the most dominant periods for any men’s team at ICC tournaments. They posted 23 wins in 24 completed matches in the last three ICC men’s limited-overs tournaments. The only loss was the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia, which ended their ten-match winning streak in that tournament. Since then India had completed unbeaten campaigns at the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Despite starting just 17 Premier League games last season due to injuries ravaging his chances at consistent minutes, the former Leicester City ace would still manage to pick up a standout nine goals and four assists along the way.
However, despite pushing past those injury difficulties to start all four of his side’s league encounters this season, the goals and assists have unfortunately dried up, with zero goal contributions next to his name, despite creating two big chances.
For the crunch Champions League opener against Barca, Howe might now be tempted to axe Barnes completely, in favour of starting new recruit Anthony Elanga instead.
After all, Elanga – who cost a whopping £55m to win this summer – even has experience of Europe’s finest competition under his belt, with a goal in this competition coming his way from his minimal chances at Manchester United when slotting home an effort versus Atletico Madrid back in 2022.
While the short-term fix is likely to be the Swede, Newcastle also look as though they a long-term heir for Barnes up their sleeve.

Newcastle are known to pride itself on being a club that allows its youngsters to impress in the senior mix when the time is right.
The likes of Lewis Miley have experienced that first hand, with the 19-year-old midfield sensation never looking back after making his senior debut for the Toon in late 2023, with 49 appearances in the first team now coming his way.
Seung Soo-Park will hope he can soon follow in Miley’s footsteps in being another raw youngster who settles into the first-team environment swimmingly, having already been praised quite heavily since switching South Korea for English shores.
After all, Park did leave quite the impression on fans of his former club Suwon Bluewings, with a strike bagged back in June last year versus Ansan Greeners FC, making him the youngest ever goalscorer in the history of South Korean professional football.
This milestone even led to shouts that he was Korea’s ‘answer to Mbappe’, with a further three assists heading his way at Suwon before Newcastle gambled on the much-talked-about attacker who has already shown flashes of his fearless excellence in pre-season, based on the numbers above.
Howe must have been impressed by his efforts against Espanyol and Tottenham Hotspur as he named the rising 18-year-old star among his substitutes last time out versus Wolves, with the hope he can develop into Newcastle’s long-term answer to a stuttering Barnes if given time.

When looking at the table above, it’s clear that Barnes didn’t become a recognised Premier League success story overnight, with the Newcastle number 11 having to wait until he was three years older than Park to taste his first ever top-flight contest.
From that point on, however, Barnes’ development would accelerate, with the one-time Foxes youngster once noted as being “devastating” by Sky Sports when learning the ropes at the King Power Stadium, before becoming a fully fledged top-flight regular, despite some wobbles in form.
Howe and Co. will have to be patient and hope their gamble to bring Park to English shores works out, with ex-Suwon head coach Byun Sung-hwan noting that he can “go to the top.”
If Miley and other homegrown examples are anything to go by, he could well be the next off the conveyor belt to shine, with a dream possible scenario seeing Park compete with Barnes to raise the 27-year-old’s declining levels.

Liverpool and Arne Slot have faced a hefty amount of criticism throughout the early weeks of the 2025/26 season, with analysts and rivals criticising the Premier League champions’ tactical imbalances.
Signs of defensive issues and a struggle to maintain a lead lend credence to this viewpoint, sure, but it only stretches so far. Liverpool haven’t quite been at the races this season, and yet they have pranced into a five-point lead at the top of the table, and they won their Champions League opener too.
Having won the league at a canter last term and having strengthened considerably this summer, the Reds would be forgiven for having started the year without the cast-iron sureness of last year, especially since many late goals have been scored already, and tough opponents such as Newcastle United, Arsenal and Everton have been put to the sword.
Alexander Isak has only just been integrated after his record-breaking move, and there’s no denying Florian Wirtz, 22, has left something to be desired since completing his £116m transfer from Bayer Leverkusen.
However, these things will come, and anyway, Liverpool’s pre-existing superstars remain at the top of their game, having been recognised for their talents at the Ballon d’Or ceremony on Monday evening in Paris.

New boy Wirtz came in at number 29, and fans are now eagerly anticipating his clicking into gear and making good on the “generational talent”, as he has been named by journalist Chris Stonadge, that prompted FSG to spend the big bucks.
Wirtz will fancy his shot at claiming that iconic golden ball in the future, but Salah and Van Dijk are approaching the end of their chances.
Who might challenge Liverpool’s German playmaker in the years to come? Well, Dembele might be the talk of the town right now, but the Anfield side actually have their own version, and he’s been slated for a shot down the line.

Liverpool have a team that is replete with talent, both young and old. Many players’ ceilings reach high above, but none more so than Rio Ngumoha, who, having turned 17 last month, is already riding the crest of a wave in Slot’s squad.
Poached from Chelsea in the summer of 2024, Ngumoha quickly established himself as a cut above the others in the Reds academy system, making his professional debut aged 16 as Liverpool beat Accrington Stanley 4-0 in the FA Cup. He didn’t score, the electric-paced left winger, but he caught the eye.
However, Ngumoha clearly had a fan in Slot, featuring heavily throughout pre-season. Liverpool sold Luis Diaz this summer, but a direct replacement was not welcomed through the gates. Herein lies the biggest endorsement, with Ngumoha entrusted with a regular first-team role.

One of the youngest goalscorers in Premier League history, Ngumoha is mooted for a starting berth when Liverpool host Southampton in the Carabao Cup third round, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see the England U19 international make a good impression once more.
The sky is the limit, and even then, it might be too low. Ngumoha must be inculcated into the way of things over a number of years, his prodigious potential drip-fed to the Premier League and to Europe, where he has already made his bow.
The teenager is in the right setting, to be sure. And there is no question that he has the capacity to succeed.

Isaksson-Hurst then took his effusions one step further: “I told his brother I expect him to see him on the Ballon d’Or list one day, I believe he can do that.”
Not bad, Rio. Of course, the toughest part is still ahead of him, and it’s a long and treacherous road at that. But Ngumoha has the potential to become a focal point at Liverpool, and fans must be excited as they watch him develop and bloom and grow into superstardom.

Northamptonshire 237 for 4 (Broad 67, Willey 54) beat Yorkshire 224 for 9 (Wharton 58, Sutherland 58, Willey 3-42) by 13 runsCaptain David Willey haunted his former side as Northamptonshire’s captain starred with bat and then ball in a remarkable opening night Vitality Blast win for the Steelbacks, by 13 runs, against Yorkshire at Headingley.Willey led Yorkshire’s T20 side before returning home in 2022. Here, he smashed six sixes in 54 off 24 balls in a mammoth 237 for 4 total – his county’s highest ever in this format.Justin Broad top-scored with a career best 67 off 32 balls, the pair sharing a third-wicket stand of 85 inside six overs during the second half of the innings.Last year’s quarter-finalists then reduced Yorkshire’s chase to nine for three inside five balls, Willey striking twice with his left-arm pace en-route to 3 for 42. But runs kept coming as Yorkshire recovered to finish with 224 for 9.James Wharton and Australian overseas all-rounder Will Sutherland hit 58 apiece, the latter hitting four of his six sixes in one over. He faced 30 balls.Ricardo Vasconcelos shared an opening 73 inside six overs with South African Matthew Breetzke after the Steelbacks had been inserted.The latter contributed 36 with three sixes – one of which was pulled out of the ground over backward square-leg against under-fire New Zealand quick Will O’Rourke.Off-spinner Dom Bess bowled Breetzke in his first over, but the Steelbacks maintained the momentum through more measured Vasconcelos and Broad, who took the score to 105 for 1 after 10 overs on a batting paradise of a pitch.Bess struck again to bowl Vasconcelos for 48 – 116 for 2 in the 12th – but that brought Willey in. He reached his fifty off 20 balls after Broad’s had come up in 23. The former was brutal in favouring the leg-side.Broad, particularly strong against spin in his 20th career appearance, hit five of 17 sixes in an innings which saw debutant O’Rourke return figures of nought for 67 from four overs. Yorkshire’s hopes of reeling in what would have been their highest successful run chase in Blast history were then hurt badly inside five balls.New captain Dawid Malan hoisted Willey out to deep midwicket before Will Luxton edged the next ball to slip. A wide ball followed before Adam Lyth was run out at the striker’s end coming back for three to deep midwicket, leaving Yorkshire nine for three.Northamptonshire had taken three wickets in three legal deliveries. But fourth-wicket pair Harry Duke, batting for the first time in his sixth T20 appearance, and Wharton then threatened a revival with a scintillating 81-run partnership inside six overs.Duke hit four sixes in an 18-ball 37 before being bowled sweeping at Australian leg-spinner Lloyd Pope’s third ball. Wharton continued on and reached 50 off 27 balls before playing on pulling at Willey, leaving Yorkshire 141 for 5 in the 12th over.Sutherland then clattered compatriot Liam Guthrie – nought for 68 from three overs – for four sixes in the 13th to reach 50 off 26 balls before falling caught at long-off against Pope in the next – 174 for six.Yorkshire continued to hang tough, taking the target to 30 off the last two overs and 22 off the last. وتابع: “مشاركته من عدمها تبقى وجهة نظر الجهاز الفني، لكن المؤكد بنسبة 100% بل 1000% أنه لن يشارك في مباراة بتروجيت، هذا أمر محسوم تمامًا”.
وأضاف: “أما أحمد رضا، فما زال يؤدي تدريبات تقوية للركبة تحت إشراف الدكتور أحمد جاب الله، لكنه تحسّن كثيرًا جدًا، وكان من الممكن أن يشارك في المران، إلا أن الطبيب فضّل الانتظار قليلًا حتى يطمئن بنسبة 100% على حالته”.

وواصل: “محمد شريف لن يشارك في السوبر، وكذلك حسين الشحات، شريف يخضع حاليًا لتدريبات تأهيلية، لكن لا يزال أمامه بعض الوقت قبل العودة للمباريات”.
وأشار شوبير: “قصة أشرف داري ما زالت غير واضحة، فكلما اقترب من العودة، يتم تأجيل مشاركته قليلًا لحين التأكد من جاهزيته، وبالمناسبة، لم يصل أي عرض رسمي لأشرف داري من أي نادٍ ليبي كما تردّد في بعض التقارير”.
واستكمل: “لا يوجد نادٍ ليبي طلب ضم أشرف داري، ولا اللاعب رفض أي عرض من هذا النوع، لأن الأمر لم يحدث من الأساس، الأهلي فقط يبحث مستقبل داري مثلما يبحث مستقبل عدد من لاعبيه، وقد أكدت هذا أكثر من مرة”.
وأردف: “الجميع داخل النادي منح تفويضًا للمدير الفني ييس توروب من أجل حسم ملف اللاعبين الأجانب، وعلى رأسهم أشرف داري، وأليو ديانج، وبقية الأجانب المتواجدين في الفريق”.
واختتم شوبير: “محمد علي بن رمضان لا توجد عليه أي مشاكل، وكذلك أشرف بن شرقي، وأيضًا جراديشار لا يعاني من أي أزمة، الأهلي في الوقت الحالي لا يملك رأس حربة جاهزًا؛ فحتى المهاجم المصري محمد شريف مصاب، واللاعب الصاعد حمزة عبد الكريم سيغيب لمدة شهر تقريبًا بسبب مشاركته في كأس العالم للناشئين، لذلك سيضطر الأهلي للانتظار لحين تحديد موقفه من المهاجمين، لكن لا أعتقد أن هناك أي مشكلة تخص جراديشار”.
